The Play's The Thing

I just found out that the Oregon Shakespearian Festival is doing Othello and A Midsummer's Night Dream, which of course are plays I love to see. I think I saw A Midsummer's Night Dream when in Ashland when I was growing up; I know I've seen it at the American Players' Theater in Spring Green, Wisconsin, and also a few times in Milwaukee (can't remember who performed it in Milwaukee though).

So, I guess what I'm saying is that if any of you want to join me in seeing these, speak up :) and I'll wait to see them until you are able to join. Because I am almost certainly going to get tickets to see them.

Ashland is only a five hour drive from here, and it is a *pretty* drive. Of course I say that a lot, Oregon is shockingly diverse and beautiful.

When we lived in Madison, we were lucky enough to get free tickets to the American Players' Theater (APT) which is the outdoor theater in Wisconsin. It was lovely, and the actors were amazingly talented, and somehow we managed to go not nearly enough. We were down to once per year, and we usually didn't even have to pay for tickets! And it was only an hour away from where we lived!

Two summers ago, Dean and Michele and Carrie and Todd and Brian and I all agreed to get together and drive down to see a play. We brought a picnic for dinner before the play. Because all of my friends are so thoughtful and neat, each couple brought 2-3 bottles of wine, and everyone brought two or three times the amount of food that any of us could eat. We had a wonderful picnic outside, got slightly tipsy and definitely full and then walked up the hill to the play as the sun went down.

It was a wonderful night - surrounded by friends, wine, and summer air. The bats swooped the lights as you watch the stars shine brighter and brighter. You lose yourself in the play, it's amazing. We meant to go last year with those four again, but with all the craziness of moving, it just didn't come together. I hope they start another group to do that at APT - it is probably one of my favorite summer memories of all time.

Lake Schooner

Another thing to do before we leave - in Sheboygan, there is a rescued sunk lake schooner from the 1800s. According to Roadsideamerica.com, it's free and outdoors. Brian and I are going to try to get to it before we go, sounds like a great way to spend a spring day.

Quick note of something to do

I want to go to Leon's as soon as it's warm enough.

You know, Leon's, which is what they based the original Arnold's Diner on for Happy Days.

When Brian and I lived in Milwaukee, we'd go there all the time. One of their sundaes comes with five cherries!!

New way for me to track

I am creating a new category called Things to Do so that we can get some of these out of the way in the weeks to come.

1. Cave of the Mounds
2. House on the Rocks
