Film
I finally bought a new scanner yesterday, one that I've been researching since the last one died. However, I waited just long enough that I couldn't get it in my state, and had to pay a $40 premium (sales tax + more expensive) by going to Best Buy in Washington. No matter, I have a new scanner, which is super cool. I celebrated this by scanning a few old pictures and playing with the software.
One thing I noticed, and have noticed before, is that the camera I used in 1995 was amazing. It did such great colors, and let me capture exactly what I was trying to capture. My current digital is something I've hated since day 1.
My sister has (had?) the film camera I was using in 1995, I'm going to talk to her about getting it back for a while. Keep your finger crossed for me.
I'm also wondering if the fact that the picture was printed on Kodak paper make so much of a difference - I know they were known for it, and I also know they don't do that anymore.
I'm still mad that I got into my grandfather's polaroid SX-70 at just the moment Polaroid decided to stop making film for it.
I'm not reconciled to going to the next level of carrying around a huge camera to take pictures, I still like the spontaneity of keeping a small camera in my purse. But I think I am going to try to move that way a bit more.
In other news, we are going to get a gas grill today, I'm so excited! We gave our last grill to Phil and Cathy so we wouldn't have to move it, and have been grill-less since. I've been jealous of all the good smells coming over the fence in our neighborhood, and we definitely want to have one by the point that Gretchen, Jay and the kids are here!
