Hush puppies!
I added a dusting of corn meal to the bottom of the pan I'm cooking tonight's Mexican Lasagne in, and in doing so, I took a look at the bag of corn meal I bought at New Seasons.
It has a recipe for hush puppies on it, and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I am going to make these tomorrow I think. Brian will do the frying because apparently he thinks I will light myself on fire anytime I try to fry something. And he's better at it now because of that :)
Hush puppies are the only food memory I have from living in Virginia Beach as a toddler. I'm sure I ate my mom's food too, but since I grew up with it, I don't have any particular memory associated with Virginia Beach & my mother's cooking. Hush puppies must have been a special treat though that I remember them, and we got them the last time we were in Virginia Beach when I was 16.
