Pre-Thanksgiving thoughtfulness
Someone was talking about the night before Thanksgiving, and how everyone goes to the bar for a drink.
When I was a teenager, and starting college, it worked exactly that way. I'd come home for Thanksgiving, and all these people I hadn't seen in a few months would be home too. We'd go somewhere that seemed kinda lame now for a drink or two and catch up. It was fun, and seemed part of the tradition.
After that, after I had been in Madison for a while, it seemed every night-before-Thanksgiving had a Happy Hour, which I conveniently milked for drinks for my birthday (hehe). So there wasn't the catching up with old friends aspect, but still, there was a going-to-the-bar aspect. Usually this would end up with board games at Brian and my house.
Now that we are in a new town, and don't know very many people yet, I'm not sure if we will go to the bar tonight or not. I'm guessing not, just because we are going out for my birthday on Friday and Saturday, but in some ways I think it's going to feel strange to not be out with a huge group of people tonight.
On the other hand, preparing the turkey tomorrow will be much more enjoyable :)
