Matchbooks
I have a lot of ephemera that I inherited from my mom and dad from either their travels or from my ancestors. I also have a scanner, and I get moods where I love scanning things for preservation.Recently, it's been a matchbook collection from my dad. I had a lot of fun doing it, and researching the places from which the matchbooks came. Most of them are no longer around, but a good number of them closed in the last ten years.
It's interesting to see who had matches back in the day. Most of them are from the 60s and 70s, and they are almost equally divided between New Orleans and Portland (Oregon, of course!).
I'm going to make it a project to go and see where the one from Portland are, and take pictures of what is in the place of the business my dad went to. One, on NE Broadway, appears to have gone from being a diner to being a Chinese restaurant called The Orient.
The other interesting thing about them are the slogans. The one pictures for this is my favorite - "Prepared by Competent Chefs." Ha!
